徐祝三 Zhu-San Hsu

An alumnus of the class of 1976, being among the first batch of graduates. After graduation, he has held positions at TECO, TECO Image System, and LITE-ON Technology, where they have successfully developed several “Taiwan’s first” technological products. During his tenure at TECO, they contributed to the development of Taiwan’s first “fax machine” and Taiwan’s first “laser multifunction printer.” At TECO Technology, they were instrumental in creating Taiwan’s first “color laser multifunction machine.” During his time at LITE-ON Technology, they achieved a global-leading market share with the “contact-type image sensing module.” He truly embodies the essence of innovation and serve as an excellent spokesperson for cutting-edge technology.

余君仁 David Yu

In 2018, alumnus David Yu (Class of ’1977, Department of Electrical Engineering) facilitated a landmark partnership among his alma mater Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), and Foxconn. The three parties held an official signing ceremony at CYCU, launching a rare and innovative model of industry–academia collaboration in Taiwan.

The cooperation enables UWM students to come to CYCU for an exchange program, where they may take specialized engineering courses, study foundational Mandarin, and complete internships at Innolux (a Foxconn Group company) in the Southern Taiwan Science Park. Upon returning to the United States, students may earn formal credit transfer for six U.S. credits based on their academic and practical training in Taiwan. This program represents a pioneering approach that integrates Taiwan’s academic community and industry to provide American undergraduate, graduate, and corporate employees with an opportunity to advance their professional training. It also enhances Taiwan’s international reputation in combining academic excellence with real-world industry engagement.

Professor David Yu, a 1977 graduate of CYCU Electrical Engineering, has made significant contributions to his alma mater and continues to support younger generations. He hopes this collaboration will further strengthen future industry–university cooperation and talent development outcomes. Foxconn has demonstrated strong ambition in advancing into the semiconductor industry and has established the new “S Group,” dedicated to semiconductor development—signaling the maturity of its strategic layout. The industrial campus, built with a USD 10 billion investment from FOXCONN and creating 13,000 high-value jobs, has already welcomed CYCU dual-degree students for OPT internships and employment.

The partnership highlights three key features:

Internationalized industry–academia collaboration

High-end technological talent development

Joint cultivation of globally competitive professionals for both Taiwan and the United States

In the future, the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park is expected to become one of North America’s largest and most important innovation hubs, featuring the United States’ first and only advanced TFT-LCD fabrication plant. The park will drive R&D in artificial intelligence, big data, IoT, robotics, and automation, attracting global partners and suppliers. It will require a wide range of talent, including AI specialists, data analysts, and engineers in related fields. This tripartite collaboration aims to spark new opportunities in Taiwan–U.S. industry–academia cooperation and strengthen cross-border innovation.

吳日正 Ri-Zheng Wu (Mr. Raymond)

An alumnus of the class of 1978 has been living in the United States for many years and is a successful entrepreneur as well as a practitioner who cares for the earth. Over the years, he has donated funds to establish schools in areas lacking educational resources around the world and has put social justice into action with practical measures, serving as a model for young people. He is grateful for the nurturing he received from his alma mater and has donated funds to give back to his department. The funds are evenly divided between “student scholarships” and “departmental development funds.” The scholarships benefit one hundred students annually, while the development funds support targeted projects with the goal of achieving a tenfold leverage effect and strengthening the department.

廖文達 Wen-Da Liao

An alumni from the class of 1978 decided to start their own business after graduating from university. With the courage of an adventurer and the spirit of an entrepreneur, they gradually realize their dream of starting a business and becoming a high-quality role model for young entrepreneurship. Currently the General Manager of Yuda Trading Company. Often encourages junior students to possess accounting expertise in addition to their electrical engineering specialty. Besides running a business, they also venture into the quantum world and the universe’s spacetime, possessing an entrepreneur’s perspective and the demeanor of a scholar.

謝叔亮 Shu-Liang Hsieh

Mr. Shu-Liang Hsieh, a member of the Class of 1979 and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University, became the Deputy General Manager of MediaTek upon his return to Taiwan from Bell Labs. Due to his ambitious vision, he co-founded Richtek Technology with his colleagues. His guiding principle in business is “We are not smarter than anyone else, and may even be less intelligent than others, so we must ensure that every detail is carried out.” His key to success is “considering the customer’s customer.” After overcoming numerous challenges, he eventually opened the path to the world, becoming the “godfather of Taiwan’s analog IC industry” and creating the legendary figure of the “White-Haired Devil” that the global semiconductor industry holds in awe.

李俊宗 Jun-Zong Lee

Mr. Jun-Zong Lee, a member of the Class of 1982, has demonstrated outstanding performance in his professional field. Leveraging his research and development strengths and electrical engineering expertise, he has enabled his service company to maintain a leading position and increase profits, making him a leading figure among Chung Yuan alumni.

In 1997, Mr. Lee founded the fabless integrated circuit design company, Shang-Yuan Technology, which develops chips for Ethernet, broadband, and wireless local area networks. His expertise lies in chips for client devices and related software technologies, and his technical prowess has led to breakthroughs in network technology. Later, Mr. Lee focused on ARM’s technical capabilities in data communication, telecommunications, wired and wireless applications, providing the most cost-effective smart and high-performance solutions for home, SOHO, and enterprise markets. He was a pioneer in discovering future products.

His professional performance not only led Shang Yuan Technology to be authorized by ARM to develop a new generation of network system single-chip solutions, but also made Shang Yuan Technology a leader in this field, leading to its acquisition by Infineon Technologies, the world’s sixth-largest semiconductor company and a global leader in broadband connectivity chips, for NT$3.36 billion.

Currently, Mr. Lee serves as the Senior Vice President of Global Business Development and President of the US subsidiary of Quanta Computer, responsible for developing leading 5G businesses, high-speed wireless networks, implementing network virtualization, and developing solutions and strategic investments in advanced network technologies such as autonomous driving.
