Words From The Chair

Dear Esteemed Students,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as you embark on your academic journey with the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University. We are honored that you have chosen our department to be the foundation of your studies. This department will provide you with a comprehensive education that encompasses both technical expertise and personal development. You will learn essential knowledge required for future employment or further education, while also having the opportunity to engage in various clubs, performances, and activities that will encourage creativity and self-discovery.

Chung Yuan Electrical Engineering has a proud history of 50 years, with more than 20 full-time and part-time professors and nearly 5,000 graduates. Our alumni have excelled as senior executives in many high-tech companies, such as Mr. Shu-Liang Hsieh of Richtek Technology, who was named the best general manager in Taiwan by Vision Magazine. The salaries of our graduates are comparable to those of prestigious national universities. In addition, Chung Yuan Christian University ranked first in the 1111 Job Bank Enterprise Favorite University Survey, while Chung Yuan Electrical Engineering ranks fifth in the field of engineering. Our academic research achievements are among the top ten in the country, surpassing many national universities. Our faculty members are closely connected with the industry, with an average implementation amount of about 1.6 million NTD per teacher, and their R&D and practical capabilities are well recognized by the industry. We are confident that, with your diligent study here, you will achieve remarkable success in the future.

Our department’s teaching quality has passed IEET engineering education certification, and we regularly seek opinions from industry experts to plan and adjust our curriculum to meet the needs of the job market. Our teaching and research spaces are well-equipped, with individual access to machines for basic experiments, and we have co-constructed laboratories with well-known industries such as Intel and Richtek. These industry partnerships ensure that we provide rigorous training in practical skills. We hold program competitions and thematic competitions regularly each year to encourage students to cultivate their own programming skills in preparation for the AI era. We also encourage students to explore electrical engineering mysteries in each professor’s laboratory through independent learning courses, to gain practical application experience as soon as possible and to find their own professional interests. Students can also take this opportunity to join the research team of professors, participate in national special competitions, and win high prizes like the senior students. Our students are also encouraged to use their professional knowledge to serve non-profit organizations (such as saving electricity with professional knowledge). Our power system service learning has won the first place in the national service-learning evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and the senior students have been received and affirmed by its minister.

We encourage students to participate in academic student clubs, such as the Automatic Control Society and the Intelligent Robotics Society, to inspire them to pursue their dreams. In addition, the Electrical Engineering Association is an essential club for university life. From various orientation events that introduce students to university group life to graduation ceremonies when students leave the school, the Association is responsible for organizing these events. Every academic year, in addition to large and small sports events, the Association also holds various activities such as departmental trips, barbeques, and gatherings. The performance of the students is highly appreciated; for example, the climax of the Electrical Engineering Night continuously demonstrates the outstanding talent of the electrical engineering students. It has become a tradition for Electrical Engineering students to strive to make it to the finals of the school’s sports relay race team. The Association brings together the large family of Electrical Engineering and creates unforgettable university life experiences for students.

Moreover, the campus amenities are very convenient. It is about 1 kilometer from Zhongli train station. Taoyuan Bus and Kuo-Kuang Bus (1818) also have stations inside the campus. U-bikes have also entered the campus. Soon, the Taiwan Railway will also set up a station at Chung Yuan Christian University. The high-speed rail Taoyuan station and the highway interchange are both about 10-15 minutes’ drive away. It only takes 40 minutes to travel to Taipei or Hsinchu. In addition to Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Family Mart convenience stores inside the campus, there is also the famous Chung Yuan Night Market outside the campus, providing students with more choices for dining. Apart from the student dormitories, the school also evaluates nearby residential facilities and recommends high-quality off-campus housing options for students.

Finally, I believe that if you can seize every opportunity, remind yourself constantly to enrich your life, and continue to improve yourself, you will have a fulfilling university life, and become an excellent electrical engineering talent in the near future. Lastly, on behalf of our department, I welcome you to join us and wish you peace and happiness!
