Dear Esteemed Students,
Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU)! We’re delighted that you have chosen our department to be a key milestone in your academic journey. As you begin this new chapter, you are about to embark on a university life filled with professional training in electrical engineering and holistic personal development. Here, you will gain essential knowledge for future employment or further studies, participate in vibrant clubs, performances, and activities, and explore endless creative possibilities. We hope you embrace this exciting new path with joy and an open heart.
The Department of Electrical Engineering at CYCU has a history of over 50 years, supported by more than 20 full-time and part-time faculty members and nearly 5,000 alumni. Our graduates have achieved remarkable success, with many serving as senior executives in high-tech companies. For example, Mr. Shu-Liang Hsieh, an alumnus from our 4th graduating class and CEO of Richtek Technology, was recognized by CommonWealth Magazine as one of Taiwan’s top CEOs. Our graduates’ salaries are competitive with those from top national universities in Taiwan.
CYCU has consistently been ranked the top private university in Taiwan in the “Most Favored by Employers” survey by 1111 Job Bank. Our department ranks 5th nationwide in the field of engineering, just behind NTU, NTHU, NCTU, and NCKU. Our research achievements are among the top ten in Taiwan, surpassing many national universities. With strong connections to industry, each faculty member manages projects worth an average of NT$1.6 million per year—evidence of our excellence in both research and practical applications. We encourage you to have confidence in yourself and in CYCU’s Electrical Engineering program. As long as you are dedicated, you are bound to excel.
Our curriculum has been accredited by IEET (Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan), and all course planning is carefully reviewed with industry expert input to align with market needs. We offer well-equipped teaching and research facilities, including one computer per student for basic lab courses and co-established laboratories with leading companies such as Intel and Richtek, ensuring solid hands-on training. We host annual programming and capstone competitions to help students develop their coding skills for the AI era, and to train their practical application and integration abilities. You’re also encouraged to participate in our self-directed learning courses, where you can explore various faculty research labs, discover your interests early, and even join research teams to compete nationally and win substantial awards like your seniors did.
Students may also apply their knowledge in service-learning opportunities with non-profit organizations (e.g., energy-saving projects). Our department’s Power System Service-Learning Project was once ranked #1 nationwide by the Ministry of Education, and our students were personally recognized by the Minister of Education.
We encourage you to join academic clubs such as the Automation Control Club and the Smart Robotics Club, where you can dream big and bring your ideas to life. The Department Student Association is an essential part of student life. From orientation events to graduation, it organizes many activities such as department trips, barbecues, and family gatherings. Our students shine in every event—for example, the annual EE Night showcases their incredible talents, and advancing to the finals in the university-wide relay race has become a department tradition. The Association brings together the CYCU EE family and ensures an unforgettable college experience.
Our campus offers excellent living convenience. We are just 1 km from Zhong-Li Train Station. Taoyuan and Kuo-Kuang Bus stations (Route 1818) are located on campus, and U-Bike is available. A Taiwan Railways station at CYCU is coming soon, and we are only 10–15 minutes by car from the HSR Taoyuan Station and highway interchanges. Traveling to Taipei or Hsinchu takes just 40 minutes. On campus, you’ll find Starbucks, McDonald’s, and FamilyMart. Right outside the gate is the famous Zhongyuan Night Market with a variety of food options. In addition to on-campus dormitories, the university also evaluates nearby rental housing and provides quality recommendations for off-campus living.
Lastly, we believe that if you make the most of the next four years and continually enrich your life, you will grow tremendously and enjoy a fulfilling university experience. Becoming an outstanding electrical engineer is within your reach. On behalf of the department, we warmly welcome you and wish you peace and joy throughout your time with us!
